HIT 2950 - Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Preparedness


Credits: 3
Students gain a solid background in clinical documentation improvement (CDI) and daily processes preparing them for employment in healthcare facilities. The course addresses specialized skills and knowledge in alignment with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) core competency groups, critical to achieving the CDI certification and future success in the profession. Expertise in CDI principles ensures correct assignment of ICD-CM/PCS and CPT codes, DRGs, compliant claims and improved reimbursement for facilities. The course is designed for professionals who hold an associate degree or higher in Health Information Management (HIM) and/or a CCS®, CCS-P®, RHIT® or a RHIA® credential from AHIMA. Current students are also eligible to take this course with instructor approval during their last semester in the program.   This course is offered in the spring semester.

Prerequisite: HIM associate degree or higher OR

CCS®, CCS-P®, RHIT®, or RHIA® credential OR

Instructor consent.
