The Theatre program introduces students to the disciplines within theatre arts through practical, production-based work. Students complete comprehensive foundation theater and humanities courses, preparing them for transfer to University theatre programs or a career in theatre arts.

If students choose to transition to another program within the Communication & Creative Arts pathway, they should be particularly aware of the choice points that indicate when a decision to branch off into another program must be made to ensure credits and time are not lost.

Competencies


Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Apply skills to the creation of performance.
  2. Analyze and respond to texts and performances both in writing and orally.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of theatre history and literature to draw connections between theatrical practices and social contexts in and across historical periods.
  4. Apply collaborative skills in a variety of theatrical contexts.
  5. Develop and refine process skills in rehearsal, production and studio settings.
  6. Demonstrate problem-solving skills in the creation of artistic work.
  7. Demonstrate proficiency in one or more area-specific skills: acting, technical theatre, or management.
