Welding Technology - Advanced Pipe Welding, CD

The Welding Technology - Advanced Pipe Welding credit diploma builds upon the Welding Technology - Combination Welding credit diploma program of study and prepares students for work in the field of welding technology. In addition to gaining an overall understanding of welding machines, weld processes, and hands-on welding proficiency, students develop skills in the areas of print reading, welding symbols, weld inspection, destructive and non-destructive testing, along with precision machine tool operation. Students gain knowledge and skills necessary to prepare them for welding qualification to code specification(s).

Completion of the Welding Technology - Combination Welding credit diploma is required for enrollment in the Welding Technology - Advanced Pipe Welding credit diploma courses.

Competencies


Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Operate shielded metal arc welding equipment
  2. Make groove welds in the 5G positions using 6010 root and 7018 electrode fill and cap on plain carbon steel pipe
  3. Make groove welds in the 6G position using 6010 root and 7018 electrode fill and cap on plain carbon steel pipe
  4. Construct welds designed to pass a guided bend test
  5. Demonstrate groove welds in the 6G position using GTAW root and 7018 electrode fill and cap on plain carbon steel pipe.
  6. Define practical applications of metallurgy.
