Patrol Peace Officer, AAS

The Patrol Peace Officer Associate of Applied Science is designed for students who wish to prepare for careers as a Patrol Peace Officer. This is a closed program. Enrollment in this program is limited to cadets accepted by and enrolled in the Wyoming Highway Patrol Academy. This program of study includes coursework from the WHP Basic Academy and the Wyoming Highway Patrol Academy Credit Diplomas. This program offers coursework intended to satisfy the application requirements for the Applied Management BAS. Students are also eligible for immediate employment.

If students choose to transition to another program within the Human & Public Services pathway, they should be particularly aware of the choice points that indicate when a decision to branch off into another program must be made to ensure credits and time are not lost.

Coursework common to all degrees within this pathway is indicated by CAC, Common Academic Coursework, in the program map. 


Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Explain the U.S. and Wyoming criminal justice systems and laws
  2. Develop teamwork through collaboration
  3. Demonstrate critical thinking in practical and theoretical problems specific to the day to day operations of a Peace Officer
  4. Develop decision making processes used in Law Enforcement
  5. Explain ethical standards specific to the day to day operations of a Peace Officer
  6. Identify cultural differences within communities
  7. Justly enforce the law in the State of Wyoming

First Semester


  • Student earns the WHP Basic Academy, CD upon successful completion of the first semester.

Semester Total: 18 credits

Second Semester


  • Student earns Wyoming Highway Patrol Academy, CD upon successful completion of the second semester.

Semester Total: 18 credits

Third Semester

Semester Total: 12 credits

Fourth Semester


  • Completion of Patrol Peace Officer, AAS.

Semester Total: 13 credits

Program Total Credits: 61 credits

Transfer Information

The Patrol Peace Officer program is intended for students who are wishing to obtain an Applied Management, BAS at LCCC. Most of the potential careers within the Criminal Justice field, including Law Enforcement, Correctional Institutions, Probation and Parole and Pre-Law require you to transfer and continue your education at the next level.

LCCC courses may transfer to institutions in addition to those with formal articulation agreements. Students are strongly encouraged to determine the degree requirements and transfer policy of the specific college/university and program to which they plan to transfer.
