The Communication & Creative Arts program is designed for students who wish to explore a wide range of options in the fine arts, humanities, and communication in anticipation of selecting a degree in one of these specific fields.

This program offers the necessary course work to transfer to a four-year university, allowing students to pursue a baccalaureate degree or further education in related fields.

If students wish to leave the Communication & Creative Arts program for a specific program in this Pathway, they should work closely with their Advising Team to select appropriate courses.

If students choose to transition to another program within the Communication & Creative Arts pathway, they should be particularly aware of the choice points that indicate when a decision to branch off into another program must be made to ensure credits and time are not lost.

Coursework common to all degrees within this pathway is indicated by CAC, Common Academic Coursework, in the program map. 

The Communication & Creative Arts program is made of a primary area of interest and a secondary area of interest. To graduate, students must take at least 12 credits of course work in a primary area of interest and at least 9 in a secondary area of interest. Students should work with their Student Success Coach to select courses in the primary and secondary areas of interest.

Competencies


Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Analyze works (written, oral, visual, musical, or performative) using appropriate skills (e.g. reading, writing, and research).
  2. Apply discipline-specific terms to works.
  3. Analyze aspects of culture using discipline-specific terminology.
  4. Create original works utilizing discipline-specific techniques.
  5. Implement critical thinking skills using discipline specific strategies and techniques.
  6. Demonstrate improvement in work with feedback from peers and instructor.

First Semester

  • Students choosing to pursue an AA degree in Art, Theatre, or Music will need to change programs of study following their first semester to ensure their total credits and time to graduation are minimized. Students should work with their Student Success Coach in making the change.
