Competencies

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

1. Identify the nature of crime.
2. Recognize the differences between crimes and other types of legal (and moral) wrongs.
3. Analyze the concepts/perspectives of criminology.
4. Apply criminal justice vocabulary.
5. Identify the structure of the federal and state courts within the United States judicial system.
6. Compare and contrast the rights provided by the fourth, fifth, sixth, eighth, and fourteenth amendments as they pertain to the criminal justice system.
7. Recognize the differences between substantive and procedural law.
8. Identify the historical and philosophical foundations of law enforcement agencies, criminal courts, and correctional institutions.

Transfer Information

The Criminal Justice program is intended for students who are wishing to transfer to a university and obtain a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree. Most of the potential careers within the Criminal Justice field, including Law Enforcement, Correctional Institutions, Probation and Parole and Pre-Law require you to transfer and continue your education at the next level.

LCCC courses may transfer to institutions in addition to those with formal articulation agreements. Students are strongly encouraged to determine the degree requirements and transfer policy of the specific college/ university and program to which they plan to transfer.
