The Music, AA is designed for students who wish to explore and prepare for a wide range of career options in music. Within the music program, students will have the opportunity to study and perform music from a variety of styles throughout history and across multiple cultures. Completing this program may qualify students for employment in areas related to music. This degree offers coursework intended to transfer to a four-year university, allowing students to pursue a baccalaureate degree in Music, Music Education (vocal or instrumental), or Music Performance (vocal or instrumental). Students seeking to complete a major in music, or who are interested in music courses, should seek the advice of a music faculty member in addition to their Advising Team.

If students choose to transition to another program within the Communication & Creative Arts pathway, they should be particularly aware of the choice points that indicate when a decision to branch off into another program must be made to ensure credits and time are not lost.

Competencies
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to: - Apply appropriate terminology in music courses.
- Demonstrate basic analytical knowledge in music in its cultural contexts.
- Develop basic musicianship skills.
- Demonstrate basic analytical knowledge in music in its historical contexts.
- Develop high level individual performance skills on a major instrument.
- Demonstrate fundamental teaching concepts for majors pursuing the Music Education Field of Study.
- Develop high level ensemble performance skills on a major instrument.
Choice Points
- Music students should take MUSC 1030 (Written Theory I), MUSC 1035 (Aural Theory I), and MUSC 1290 (Class Piano I) in the first semester to stay on track to program completion.
- Students who can pass the piano proficiency test are not required to take additional piano classes. Students who would like to test out of these courses should contact the music faculty for details.

Choice Points
- Although not part of the program, it is highly suggested that students take Music History Survey I, MUSC 2050 , in the fourth semester (spring) of study, to avoid falling behind in music history classes when transferring to continue onto a bachelor’s program.
