Program Comments
Students planning to apply to the Respiratory Therapy Program should work closely with their Student Success Coach regarding course sequence options required for completion prior to the program application. Students may apply to the program while enrolled in or completing the last semester of prerequisites. Students should closely review the program application for specific information and requirements prior to applying to the program.
Graduates of the program will receive an Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy degree. The program is five semesters, not including the prerequisite courses and is designed for students new to healthcare. Respiratory Therapists are healthcare specialists who work with all ages of patient populations from newborn through geriatric. Respiratory Therapists are involved in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases and conditions that affect the respiratory and cardiovascular systems.
Graduates are eligible to take the national accreditation examinations for the designation of Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) through the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC). The national examinations consist of the Therapist Multiple-Choice Examination (TMC) and the Clinical Simulation Examination (CSE). There are two cut scores for the TMC Examination. If a candidate achieves the low-cut score, then the candidate will earn the Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential. If a candidate achieves the high cut score, then the candidate will earn the CRT credential AND become eligible for the Clinical Simulation Examination. A candidate must successfully pass both the TMC and the CSE to earn the credential of Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). More information about credentialing can be found at www.nbrc.org.
Graduates must also apply for licensure through the State Board of Respiratory Care in Wyoming or their state of residence where the student plans to practice. Respiratory Therapists require a license in all states except Alaska.
The information below is intended to be a guide, and does not guarantee regional job placement, job availability, or a specific wage after completion of the program.
Respiratory therapy practitioners work in hospitals, clinics, research facilities, home care agencies, sleep labs, flight and alternate care sites.
Additional information on careers in Respiratory Therapy is available through Career Coach.
Once you have graduated from an accredited program it is required by Wyoming law that you obtain a license to work as a respiratory therapist there. The State Board For Respiratory Care governs the licensing of respiratory therapists in Wyoming. Respiratory Therapists require a license in all states except Alaska.
Transfer Information
LCCC courses may transfer to institutions in addition to those above with formal articulation agreements.
