The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program offers students the knowledge and skills for performing high-quality diagnostic exams to aid physicians in making a diagnosis and preparation for national certifications. The program prepares students to be competent entry-level sonographers in cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains in abdominal extended sonography, obstetrics and gynecology sonography, and vascular sonography. Students will learn about various sonographic examinations including but not limited to abdominal, gynecological, fetal, vascular, and small parts.  Graduates are prepared to sit for national certification exams in diagnostic medical sonography 60 days before graduation.

The program is an intensive, six-semester program, not including prerequisite courses, and is designed for students new to patient care. The sonographer must have an in-depth knowledge of physics, pathophysiology, human anatomy and physiology, and sonographic techniques to create a diagnostic ultrasound image. Students will be on campus for their first year of the program and the second year will be performed at their clinical facility.  The clinical experience may require relocation and/or commuting to complete the clinical experience. Diagnostic medical sonographers are trained to provide patient care, and high-quality sonographic images to assist physicians in various medical settings.
