
The LCCC Practical Nursing Program is designed for students with patient care experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) wishing to expand their skills and knowledge in patient care. This intensive three-semester program, not including prerequisite courses, is a balance of general education and nursing courses that provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to function as beginning practitioners of nursing. Students receive instruction in a hybrid/asynchronous/and synchronous platform alongside clinical experiences in the nursing care of patients in health care settings under the supervision and guidance of the nursing faculty and preceptors. Clinical sites are in a variety of communities and travel may be required. This program can be completed at a distance with short on-campus residencies required each semester.
Admission into the LCCC Practical Nursing Program is competitive. Applications are accepted once a year. Students must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and be in satisfactory academic standing. Prerequisite courses must be completed with at least a “C” or better. More information on the application process is available on the Nursing webpage. The nursing curriculum at Laramie County Community College is a leveled educational program to facilitate career mobility. The successful completion of this program provides a foundation for progression in the field of nursing and prepare the student to earn a certificate of completion and provide eligibility to take the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX-PN) and attain licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
Successful completion of the LCCC Practical Nursing Program prepares students for National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX-PN) and attain licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Additionally, successful completion prepares graduates for advanced placement into the ADN program which is part of the Statewide ReNEW consortium. As a member of this consortium, LCCC nursing students are automatically accepted into the University of Wyoming’s ReNEW baccalaureate program. Students can take online courses for their baccalaureate in nursing (BSN) degree while earning their associate degree in nursing (ADN). Students also have the option to apply for other RN-BSN programs, once they graduate from this program and pass the National Council Licensure Exam-RN (NCLEX-RN).
