Medical Office & Records Specialist, CD

The Medical Office and Records Specialist program is designed to prepare students for entry-level administrative positions within the health care field by providing them with the skills necessary to effectively manage daily medical office operations, efficiently schedule and communicate with patients, safeguard medical records, understand legal and ethical issues in the field, supervise data entry, and maintain comprehensive knowledge of HIPAA. This program provides a thorough education in constructing, maintaining, and securing medical records while integrating essential components of telehealth coordination and cybersecurity.

Competencies


Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate accurate and productive computer office skills.
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in the technical skills required in a medical office environment.
  3. Manage telehealth services, including scheduling virtual appointments, facilitating remote consultations, and managing electronic health records (EHRs).
  4. Implement and follow HIPAA and cybersecurity best practices to protect patient data from unauthorized access and cyber threats.
