Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs A through Z

This program is designed for students who have earned a bachelor’s degree in communication disorders within the last 5 years or are in the final year of the bachelor’s program at a regionally accredited institution and are seeking to become a certified Speech-LanguagePathology Assistant (SLPA) through the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) or the Wyoming State Board of Examiners of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.

The credit diploma can be completed in two semesters and is based upon the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and Wyoming State Board educational and field work experience requirements by providing 270 hours of clinical field work. The program will assist students in providing placement to ensure that each student receives 100 hours of direct treatment under the supervision an ASHA-certified Speech Language Pathologist.

Prospective students interested in the credit diploma should contact the SLPA Program Director for details about the admission and application process.  Applications are accepted annually and applicants must have at least a 2.5 GPA on their baccalaureate transcripts.

Program Comments

Students planning to apply to the Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program should work closely with their Advising Team regarding course sequence options required for completion prior to program application.

Certified SLPAs are most often employed in private or public school settings and healthcare.

Additional information on careers in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant is available through Career Coach.
