Telecommunications Specialist, CD

The Telecommunications Specialist Credit Diploma is designed to prepare students with the industry-established skills necessary for a career in telecommunications deployment, maintenance, and repair. Students gain expertise in ethernet, copper, and fiber optic networking, as well as structural access and design, and workplace communications.

If students choose to transition to another program within the Information Technology pathway, they should be particularly aware of the choice points that indicate when a decision to branch off into another program must be made to ensure credits and time are not lost.

Competencies


Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Analyze common network problems from an OSI model, layered approach.
  2. Identify key industry standards necessary to specify, install, and test network cabling.
  3. Discuss ANSI/TIA-568- performance specifications for the optical fiber cables recognized in premises cabling standards.
  4. Interpret aspects of basic facility infrastructure construction, entry, and repair with regard to telecommunications services.

The Telecommunications Specialist program is intended to give students the academic coursework helpful in obtaining potential jobs. Possible careers in or related to Telecommunications include Computer User Support Specialist, Computer Network Support Specialist, Telecommunications Equipment Installer and Repairer, except for Line Installers.
