Agriculture & Equine, AAS

The Agriculture & Equine program is designed for students who wish to explore and prepare for a wide range of careers in the fields of agriculture and equine. Students will learn about livestock and horses; facility management; and business management. This program is designed for students who want a broad understanding of this area; those who intend to continue their education in a Bachelor of Applied Science, Business - Applied Management program; and those who are unsure which Ag & Equine program is best for them. Students who plan to pursue any credit diploma, associate’s of science degree, or transfer to a four-year institution, they should do so after their first semester in consultation with their advisor.

If students choose to transition to another program within the Ag & Equine pathway, they should be particularly aware of the choice points that indicate when a decision to branch off into another program must be made to ensure credits and time are not lost.

Coursework common to all degrees within this pathway is indicated by CAC, Common Academic Coursework, in the program map.

Competencies


Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Apply academic and technical skills to address problems faced by the agriculture and equine industries.
  2. Apply business management principles to agriculture and equine enterprises.
  3. Apply workplace communication skills through course assignments.
  4. Demonstrate workplace productivity in agriculture and equine settings.

First Semester

  • Students choosing to take ANSC 1030  will need to take AECL 1000  in the 2nd semester.

  • Completion of AS and AAS Math and English requirements.
  • Completion of ENGL 1010  as a prerequisite for other courses.

Second Semester


Choice Points


  • Students who have not taken AECL 1000  will need to take it this semester.
  • Students should consult with their advisor if they plan to transfer to a university, pursue a credit diploma, or change their degree to any of the associates of science degrees within the Agriculture and Equine Pathway.

Program Information

The information below is intended to be a guide, and does not guarantee regional job placement, job availability, or a specific wage after completion of the program.

Students who choose to complete the Agriculture & Equine, AAS will be qualified for entry level jobs in the agriculture and equine industry. Qualification for these jobs will vary depending on electives chosen and other work experience. Possible jobs opportunities may include ranch hand, stall assistant, facilities assistant, agriculture or equine sales, livestock or equine technician, field technician for government agency or crop consulting firm, management and introductory management positions, and other opportunities depending on interest and qualifications.

Transfer Information

This degree is well suited for those who may be interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Science, Applied Management degree at Laramie County Community College.

LCCC courses may transfer to institutions in addition to those above with formal articulation agreements. Students are strongly encouraged to determine the degree requirements and transfer policy of the specific college/university and program to which they plan to transfer.
