Agricultural Business, AS

The Associate of Science Agricultural Business program prepares students to be agile problem solvers and strong communicators in order to effectively meet the challenges facing the next generation in the food and fiber sector. This program is designed to provide a pathway for students to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, or Agriculture Leadership and Communication related fields at a university. An Agricultural Business degree offers the graduate a variety of career opportunities including business ownership, political analyst, international business, banking and lending, farm or ranch management, financial consulting, education, commodity trading, marketing, transportation analyst, agricultural and water law, and the list goes on.

If students choose to transition to another program within the Ag & Equine pathway, they should be particularly aware of the choice points that indicate when a decision to branch off into another program must be made to ensure credits and time are not lost.

Competencies


Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Apply critical thinking with the appropriate academic and technical skills to business problems faced by the agriculture industry.
  2. Produce agriculture business reports that effectively communicate in a persuasive and informative manner.
  3. Work collaboratively with agriculture communities of interest to in order to build consensus and accomplish agriculture business and financial management goals.
  4. Apply agriculture business management principles and research to the development and selection of agriculture enterprises.
  5. Evaluate the success of agricultural management plans and enterprises using financial and accounting information and tools.

The AS Agricultural Business program is well suited for transfer to a Bachelor’s program in Agribusiness Management, Farm and Ranch Management, Livestock Business Management, and International Agriculture.

LCCC courses may transfer to institutions in addition to those above with formal articulation agreements. Students are strongly encouraged to determine the degree requirements and transfer policy of the specific college/university and program to which they plan to transfer.
