The Sport Management degree is intended for students who are interested in positions within sport and recreation such as athletic director, parks and recreation positions at the local, state & federal level, sports information director, compliance officer, marketing, intramural director, academic advisor, recreation director, development, community recreation, and many other related fields. Students must complete the general education core and the Sport Management core courses. Students should carefully study the specific requirements of the institutions to which they plan to transfer. Based on student transfer needs, course substitutions are possible; however, the degree requirements must be met. Please speak with Sport Management faculty member and a success coach to finalize your program of study.

Upon completion of all coursework, the student will earn an Associate of Science degree in Sport Management. Students may find employment with their Associate’s degree. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree may be required for other positions within sport.

Competencies

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

Articulate professional codes of ethics to sport or recreation settings.
Use professional communication skills in a variety of settings such as with supervisor, advertisers, potential sponsors/donors, and peers.
Explain how external factors such as state and federal regulations, the judicial system, and collective bargaining affect sports operations.
Articulate how the various agencies that govern the professional, collegiate, high school and amateur levels impact sport.
Describe the historical development of sport.

The AS in Sport Management is intended for students who are wishing to transfer to a university and obtain a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree. Most of the potential careers listed below require a student to transfer and continue their education at the next level. Potential careers include coach, recreation manager, sports agent, athletic public relations manager and athletic events manager.

Transfer Information

The AS Sport Management degree is well suited for transfer to a Bachelor degree program.

LCCC courses may transfer to institutions in addition to those with formal articulation agreements. Students are strongly encouraged to determine the degree requirements and transfer policy of the specific college/university and program to which they plan to transfer.
