DHYG 1410 - Dental Hygiene Principles Credits: 6 Students identify the microbiology related to transmissible diseases in dentistry and the chain of asepsis. Students practice sterilization, aseptic techniques, infection control procedures and the use of maintenance of dental equipment. Students identify OSHA, HIPAA, hazardous communication, safety, ergonomic, risk management, and medical emergencies procedures and documentation. Students explore the principles of ethical and professional behavior, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association Code of Ethics and Standards of Care as they relate to the practice of dental hygiene. Students assess their client’s needs, complete dental hygiene diagnosis, develop care plans and document in practice management software. Students identify instruments and practice instrumentation.
Prerequisite: Acceptance into the Dental Hygiene program.
