DHYG 2250 - Pain Management Credits: 2.5 Students acquire the knowledge to administer topical, noninjectable, and local anesthetics and nitrous oxide analgesia to increase patient comfort and pain control when providing dental hygiene services. Students examine principles of pharmacology, patient management, medical considerations, and indications and contraindications for the use of local anesthetics and nitrous oxide analgesia. Students correlate theory to practice in the lab and clinical experience practicing pain management techniques using the dental hygiene process of care and the safe use of equipment and armamentarium.
Prerequisite: Completion of DHYG 1200 and current CPR certification.
