HIST 1290 - History of the U.S. West Credits: 3 This course is an introductory survey of the American West, wherein students examine developments in both the 19th and 20th centuries beginning in the nineteenth century from early exploration through the fur trade, including territorial expansion to the Pacific and in the American Southwest. Students also develop an informed familiarity with western American mining frontiers, the growth and expansion of the cattle industry and farming frontiers, and examine the diversity of the people living in this region.
Prerequisite: Completion of ENGL 0810 , or placement into ENGL 1010 .
