Welcome to LCCC!
Congratulations on taking your next step in your personal transformation through higher education. There is likely no better time, and no better place for you than right now, and right here at Laramie County Community College. LCCC has been recognized as a leader in innovation, quality programming, high-touch student services, and most importantly, helping students achieve their educational goals.
LCCC has been one of a few select colleges in the nation (just one of thirteen to be exact) who are a part of the American Association of Community Colleges Guided Pathways 2.0 initiative. Guided Pathways is all about changing everything we do at LCCC to transform and improve the entire student experience. We do this by focusing on four distinct goals - clarifying the paths to students’ end goals, helping students get on a path, helping students stay on their path, and ensuring students are learning.
So, what does that mean for you? It means you will not likely find a college experience anywhere else that will match what LCCC can provide you. We do this though the following.
Providing Clarity
LCCC has organized our programs into seven (7) distinct Pathways. These Pathways are explained later in this catalog and our programs are organized within each Pathway. Beginning Fall 2020, students will enter a Pathway, choose their courses according to clear program maps, and develop your own customized academic plan that maps out your path from start to graduation. You will be able to track their academic milestones and understand clearly what to do to advance within a Pathway or a program. You will never have to guess what you need to do to complete or when you will complete your program. Our new Program Maps outline next steps for students after their time at LCCC, preparing them to transfer to a university or to immediately start your career.
Purposeful and Continual Exploration
We recognize that students don’t always know exactly what they want to do when they come to college, for their program or for their career. At LCCC, we work with you from the very beginning on career and program exploration, and you will have numerous opportunities to dig deeper to help solidify your goals. LCCC has also completely restructured the way our programs are organized and courses are scheduled, so students can explore early within a Pathway before choosing a specific program, without losing time or credits. The common coursework within a Pathway helps students explore options in that area without losing time, credits, or money. If you remain undecided, or even change your mind, we will work with you to do all we can to ensure you graduate on schedule.
Being Part of a Community
One of the most fundamental changes, and most unique parts of the student experience at LCCC is our Pathway Communities. When you enter a Pathway, you aren’t simply choosing an academic path, you will become part of a special community. Each Pathway builds a community of interest where you will have the opportunity to learn with other students who have similar interests and goals, build deep and lasting relation‑ships with others, and get connected to industry and/or university partners who will help you successfully transition to your next step after LCCC. Pathways is more than just the traditional classroom learning, it is about creating community where students will foster a sense of belonging, connect with peers, community resources, and industry stakeholders. As members of Pathways communities, students will have consistent support from dedicated faculty and staff from your very first day, when you graduate, and even beyond.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, the faculty and staff, it is our privilege and honor to have you as a LCCC Golden Eagle. We all believe in transforming our student’s lives through the power of inspired learning, and we want to help transform yours as well. I promise, you won’t find a more unique or student-centered college experience than what you will find right here at Laramie County Community College. I look forward to seeing you on campus.
Sincerely,
Dr. Joe Schaffer
President
