LCCC Catalog 2021-2022 [ARCHIVED CATALOG]

Message from Dr. Joe Schaffer, President

Welcome to LCCC!

Congratulations on taking this step to a brighter future. There is likely no better time, and no better place for you than right now, right here at Laramie County Community College (or what we refer to as L-Triple-C). LCCC has been continuously recognized as a leader in innovation, quality programming, high-touch student services, an amazing student experience, and most importantly, helping students achieve their educational goals that lead to rewarding careers or advanced standing at a university after you transfer.

LCCC is a leader in a transformational movement called Guided Pathways that is fundamentally changing the student experience.  So, what does that mean for you? It means you will not likely find a college experience anywhere else that will match what LCCC can provide you. We have redesigned the programs we offer, the way we work, and how you will interact with us.  The entire experience is centered on helping you get on a path and stay on a path to reach your end goal, and ensure you are learning what you need to be successful in your next step.

We have created this experience by doing the following:

Providing Clarity

LCCC has organized our programs into eight (8) distinct Pathways. These Pathways are explained later in this catalog and our programs are organized within each Pathway. Every student new to LCCC will select and become part of a Pathway based on your interests and goals.  Whether you know exactly what you want to do, or are interested in a broader Pathway, you will enter with the opportunity to explore, choose your courses and develop your own customized academic plan that maps out your path from your first day to graduation.

You will be able to track your academic milestones and understand clearly what to do to advance within a Pathway or a program and get closer to certificate or degree. You will never have to guess what you need to do to complete or when you will complete your program. Our new Program Maps outline next steps for students after their time at LCCC, preparing them to transfer to a university or to immediately start your career.

Purposeful and Continual Exploration

We recognize that students don’t always know exactly what they want to do when they come to college (I know I didn’t!), for their program or for their career. At LCCC, we work with you from the very beginning on career and program exploration, and you will have numerous opportunities to dig deeper to help solidify your goals. LCCC has also restructured the way our programs are organized and courses are scheduled, so students can explore early within a Pathway before choosing a specific program. The common coursework within a Pathway helps students explore options in that area without losing time, credits, or money. If you remain undecided, or even change your mind, we will work with you to do all we can to ensure you graduate on schedule.

Being Part of a Community

One of the most fundamental changes, and most unique parts of the student experience at LCCC is our Pathway Communities. When you enter a Pathway, you aren’t simply choosing an academic path, you will become part of a unique community. Each Pathway builds a community of interest where you will have the opportunity to learn with other students who have similar interests and goals, build deep and lasting relationships with others, and get connected to industry and/or university partners who will help you successfully transition to your next step after LCCC. Pathways is more than just the traditional classroom learning, it is about creating community where students will foster a sense of belonging, connect with peers, community resources, and industry stakeholders. As members of Pathways communities, students will have consistent support from dedicated faculty and staff before your very first day, when you graduate, and even beyond.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, the faculty and staff, it is our privilege and honor to have you as a LCCC Golden Eagle. We all believe in transforming our student’s lives through the power of inspired learning, and we want to help transform yours as well. I promise, you won’t find a more unique or student-centered college experience than what you will find right here at Laramie County Community College. I look forward to seeing you on campus.

Sincerely,

Dr. Joe Schaffer
President
