Agriculture Production Technology, AAS

Students in the Associate of Applied Science Agriculture Production Technology program will obtain skills for employment in the following areas: farm or ranch operator or assistant manager, herdsman, swine specialist, feedlot operator, and emerging jobs in the agriculture production industry. This program features classroom instruction, laboratory exercises, and requires two eight-week internships in the spring of the first and second years to prepare the student for gainful employment.

Competencies

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Apply critical thinking with the appropriate academic and technical skills to operational problems faced by the agriculture production industry.
  2. Work collaboratively with agriculture production communities of interest in order to build consensus and accomplish production goals.
  3. Apply management principles to agriculture production processes.
  4. Apply principles of effective animal health to include nutritional management.
  5. Design agricultural methods that balance agriculture production goals with environmental concerns.

Students who choose to pursue a degree in Agriculture Production Technology will be qualified many jobs in the agriculture industry. Possible jobs opportunities may include ranch hand, stall assistant, facilities assistant, agriculture or equine sales, livestock or equine technician, field technician for government agency or crop consulting firm, management and introductory management positions, and other opportunities depending on interest and qualifications.

Transfer Information

This program is well suited for those who may be interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Science, Business - Applied Management degree at Laramie County Community College. Students desiring to transfer to Bachelors of Science degree program upon graduation should consult with their advisor.
