The Credit Diploma in Emergency Medical Services-Paramedic program prepares competent entry-level paramedics for work in various emergency services fields including fire departments, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies, hospitals and other healthcare areas. The program integrates didactic and internship opportunities, allowing students to immediately be employed after graduation. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP), on the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Emergency Medical Services Programs (CoAEMSP.) Upon completion of the Credit Diploma, students may work towards completion of the AAS degree.

Students must pass a written exam and interview board prior to being accepted into the Paramedic Program. All other LCCC application processes must also be met. Prerequisites for entry to the program are Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) state licensure and or NREMT certification and employment in the EMS or healthcare field for at least one year, or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification and employment in the EMS or healthcare field for at least one year. Individuals currently holding EMT licensure may be eligible to have EMT 1500 waived.

The certificate diploma offers coursework intended to prepare students for immediate employment after completion of the coursework and successful and licensure exams.

EMT 1500 - Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B) Credits: 9

Milestones

Students are eligible to sit for certification and licensure exams upon completion of EMT 1500. Once licensed as an EMT, students should begin obtaining EMT work experience. One year of experience as an EMT is required prior to program application and starting the EMS - Paramedic program.

Milestones

The EMS - Paramedic program typically begins during the spring semester.
Students complete The Difficult Airway Course as part of EMGT 2535 .
Students receive ACLS certification as part of EMGT 2545 .
Students complete AMLS certification as part of EMGT 2555 .
Students begin clinical rotations in EMGT 2600 .

Completion of Credit Diploma in Emergency Medical Services - Paramedics.
