The energy efficient Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVAC/R) program is designed for students who want to gain industry skills and pursue a basic academic foundation in HVAC/R. The Associate of Applied Science degree includes general education requirements; as well as advanced HVAC/R courses installation, repair, and maintenance knowledge and skills: thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and electrical topics. Students will graduate with two credit diplomas (Industrial Systems Technology and HVAC/R) and an Associate of Applied Science degree. The HVAC/R AAS is designed for students working in a registered Department of Labor apprenticeship and those who want to go directly into the workforce. Students must complete the Industrial Systems Technology Credit Diploma and the HVAC/R Credit Diploma prior to enrolling in the HVAC/R AAS.

Competencies

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

Analyze the performance of a refrigeration system using pressure and temperature.
Build a mechanical piping system in accordance with technical specifications.
Create a mechanical refrigeration system capable of transferring a specified heat load.
Verify that an air conditioning system is operating at capacity.
Evaluate a residential furnace using the commissioning process.
Design an air conditioning system.
Repair a malfunctioning air conditioning system in accordance with Section 608 of the Clean Air Act.
Design a heating and cooling system for a given structure.

This degree is well suited for those who may be interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Science, Applied Management degree at Laramie County Community College.
