Elementary & Early Childhood Education, AA

The Elementary & Early Childhood Education program is designed for students who wish to explore coursework within the early childhood and elementary education fields. This program offers coursework intended to transfer to a four-year college or university allowing students to pursue a baccalaureate degree in Elementary & Early Childhood Education for a career in a public or private school setting for young children. This program requires that students successfully pass a criminal background check.

Completing this program may qualify students for employment as a childcare worker, preschool teacher, substitute teacher, childcare center director, nanny, or elementary (K-6) teacher in a public or private school setting.

Competencies

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Examine how diverse learners develop in cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical capacities.
  2. Formulate developmentally appropriate instructional strategies through the creation of authentic, meaningful learning experiences.
  3. Create formative and summative assessment applications to improve both student learning and teacher decision-making.
  4. Appraise one’s professional commitment, leadership ability, collaborative role, and ethical responsibility in order to improve pedagogical practice.

Program Comments

Students must successfully pass a criminal background check and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 each semester to continue in the Elementary & Early Childhood Education program.

Transfer Information

The Elementary & Early Childhood Education program is intended for students who are wishing to transfer to a university and obtain a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree. Most of the potential careers within the field of Education require you to transfer and continue your education at the next level.

LCCC courses may transfer to institutions in addition to those with formal articulation agreements. Students are strongly encouraged to determine the degree requirements and transfer policy of the specific college/ university and program to which they plan to transfer.
