Radiography, AAS

Location(s): Cheyenne Campus

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs by Pathway

The radiography program offers the student the knowledge and skills for utilizing radiation in the diagnosis of disease under the direction of a physician. Most radiographers work in hospitals, medical clinics, and private medical offices, while some are employed in industrial, sales, governmental, and educational institutions.

The five semester program (which does not include the prerequisite courses) combines academic study with supervised clinical experience. Graduates of the program will receive an Associate of Applied Science degree and be eligible to apply to take the national certifying examination of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Upon passing the examination, a student is certified as a registered radiologic technologist. The competencies of TREX 2000  are embedded into this program to ensure students benefit from and complete the requirements of the Transition Experience prior to graduating from LCCC.

The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), 20 North Wacker Drive, Suite 2850, Chicago, IL 60606-3182 (www.jrcert.org), through its accreditation of the program in radiography at LCCC, has established a maximum number of students selected each year for the program based on clinical site availability. Most students are employed immediately upon graduation from the program. Bachelor’s and master’s degrees are also available in the field. The program begins a new cohort each fall.

A student interested in applying for the radiography program may contact the Radiography Program Director, Clinical Coordinator, or the Admissions Office for specific procedures, including placement tests, which must be completed in the early spring for admission to the program in the fall semester. Selection of new students will be completed by early April and is based on a student’s grade point average, prerequisites completed, observation hours, and other criteria as noted in the program application materials.

Laramie County Community College does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, religion, political affiliation, or disability in admission or access to, or treatment or employment in, its education programs or activities.

Additional Requirements: Each healthcare program has specific admission requirements-see program website for detailed information or meet with a health science success coach or faculty mentor for specifics.

Program Comments

The admission requirements for the Radiography program were revised in 2025. All program completion requirements, including prerequisite courses, communicated in the 2025-2026 College Catalog will be enforced for students applying for admission to these programs in Fall 2026 or any semester thereafter. Students planning to apply to the Radiography program should work closely with their Advising Team regarding course sequence options required for completion prior to program application. Students may apply to the program while enrolled in or completing the last semester of prerequisites. Students should closely review the program application for specific information and requirements prior to applying to the program.

The information below is intended to be a guide, and does not guarantee regional job placement, job availability, or a specific wage after completion of the program. Students are required to pass a licensure examination to work as a radiographic technologist.

Most radiographers work in hospitals, medical clinics and private medical offices. Additional information on careers in Radiography is available through Career Coach.

Transfer Information

Graduates may wish to continue their education with a bachelor degree in Radiologic Sciences, or train in advanced modalities such as computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, mammography, and bone densitometry.

LCCC courses may transfer to institutions in addition to those with formal articulation agreements. Students are strongly encouraged to determine the degree requirements and transfer policy of the specific college/university and program to which they plan to transfer.
