The Kinesiology & Health Promotion (KHP) program focuses on the study of human movement and the promotion of health and wellness. This interdisciplinary program integrates principles from human anatomy, physiology, chemistry, psychology, and social sciences to understand how physical activity influences health outcomes.
Kinesiology & Health Promotion is a broad field and this program is suggested for students who are interested in pursuing careers in fields of medicine, sports medicine, exercise physiology, cardiac rehabilitation, athletic training, physical therapy, occupational therapy, health coaching, personal training, dietetics, nutrition, teaching physical education, sports performance or health related fields.
During the course of the program, students earn CPR/AED/First Aid certification through the American Red Cross. Additionally, students have the opportunity to earn credentials as a certified personal trainer, coach, certified sport nutritionist, and/or certified strength and conditioning specialist. Some certifications require first obtaining your Associate’s Degree.
This program employs an integrated approach to learning. Students are provided a research based foundation and best practices in respective fields. The students have multiple opportunities to apply their learning while working with volunteers and other individuals. These hands on experiences are one of the defining features of this program. Students will gain first hand experiences in various fields within Kinesiology & Health Promotion as well as complete an internship experience aligned to their career goals.
All students must complete the general education core and the Kinesiology & Health Promotion (KHP) core courses. Students should carefully study the specific requirements of the institutions to which they plan to transfer. Based on student transfer needs, course substitutions are possible; however, the degree requirements must be met. Please speak with a KHP faculty member and your success coach to finalize your program of study.
Upon successful completion of all coursework the student will earn an Associate of Science degree in Kinesiology Health Promotion and is intended for transfer. The program offers a research based foundation and practical applications. While students must earn a Bachelor’s degree, many of the professional fields to which this degree leads require a master’s degree or beyond.
