 The Associate of Science, Animal Science program equips students in applied sciences and management to meet the challenges in producing domestic livestock species and features a robust experience working with beef cattle, horses, sheep, and swine. This program is designed to allow students the option to transfer to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science at a university. The Animal Science program can lead to future specialization including genetics, reproduction, nutrition, pharmaceuticals, toxicology, metabolism, and welfare. Rewarding career opportunities are available in business, industry, government, education, and research.

Competencies
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to: - Apply critical thinking with the appropriate academic and technical skills to problems faced by the animal agriculture industry.
- Work productively in teams in the classroom and the agriculture community to ensure safe and progressive animal handling practices.
- Apply the scientific method to improve processes and decision making in livestock management.
- Design proper animal nutrition to achieve desired outcomes for performance, development, and reproduction for economic sustainability.
- Apply financial management principles to animal agriculture enterprises.
- Design methods that balance livestock production goals with environmental effects.
- Apply sustainable practices, technology, and data-driven decision-making to enhance productivity, efficiency, and resource management in agricultural and natural resource systems.

- Completion of ENGL 1010 as a prerequisite for other courses.

- Students interested in a Pre-Vet transfer option should take ANSC 2020 .
- Students interested in an Equine or Food Animal Industries transfer option should take ANSC 2560 .
- Students interested in Pre-Vet or Food Animal Industries transfer option should take CHEM 1020 .
- Students interested in Equine industries transfer option should take CHEM 1000 .

- Agriculture Internship may be taken at any point in the program after completion of the first semester and may be split between multiple applied learning opportunities.

- Students pursuing a Pre-vet transfer option should enroll in REWM 2000 .
- Students pursuing an Equine or Food Animal Industries option should enroll in CHEM 1030 .
- Students interested in an Equine transfer option should enroll in ANSC 1030 all others should choose an approved Ag elective.

Transfer Information LCCC courses may transfer to institutions in addition to those with which there are formal articulation agreements. Students are strongly encouraged to determine the degree requirements and transfer policy of the specific college/university and program to which they plan to transfer.
